Girls Go To Mars

Can you hear it? The ascending "wa wa wa wa wa"
of blue prey about to turn into rainbow predators.

I had a really great girls weekend recently. A few girls, a little scrapbooking, a little drinking, a little dancing, and not enough sleeping. I think everyone had a good time, but if not, I had enough fun for all of us (even without the SECURITY shirt). Hey, I got to play Ms. Pac-man! Thanks Ladies.

Frosty the Snowwoman

I love these moments.

This morning Paige was staring out the window so I asked her what she was thinking...
Paige - "Is the snow sticky so we can make a snowman today?"
Mom - "I don't know. We can give it a try when Blake gets home from school."
Paige - "But do we have any carrots and buttons?"
Mom - "Yes, I have stuff to make a snowman."
Paige - "Do you have two carrots or one?"
Mom - "I think just one carrot."
Paige - "Well, then I guess we have to make it a girl."

I was able to turn my head fast enough to hide the giggle. After I composed myself, I turned back towards Paige because I just had to ask...
Mom - "So what kind of snowman would we make if we had two carrots?"
Paige - "Well, then we would have enough to make a boy snowman and a girl snowman."

Of course that was what she meant. Mom needs to get her head out of the snowbank!

Winter Sports Weekend

We had a busy weekend...as usual.
SATURDAY...

The kids spent some time snowmobiling out in the backyard. Blake had hockey practice in the afternoon. Right after hockey practice, we all went to the SCSU hockey game which is always a good time. The Huskies won. And even better, they scored six goals which means free wings at BWW. Blake is starting to learn the about offense, defense, penalties, etc. so he really pays attention to the game. Paige really pays attention too, to the cheerleaders and mascot that is! She was actually quite concerned about what team the Huskies were going to play because if they played the Wild, she said she wouldn't know who to cheer for because Daddy really likes both of those teams ;-)

SUNDAY...
Blake had hockey practice first thing in the morning. When Henry and Blake got back from hockey, we went to Powder Ridge for the kids first attempt at downhill skiing. I won't lie. I was harboring a LOT of uncertainty about how great of an idea this was. Henry and I used to ski quite a bit...Henry more than me. However, we haven't been skiing in over 10 years. I was worried about my ability to ski as well as to help teach a 7 and 5 year old. Blake caught on right away and was ready for the chair lift after about 30 minutes. It took Paige a little longer to catch on which is perfectly acceptable considering she just turned 5 less than a month ago. Speaking of 5, I think it took her that many attempts to make it up the j-lift without the attendant having to stop it because she fell off! Once she mastered the lift, she was ready to rock.

The kids are proud of their lift tickets

After a couple successful trips down the bunny hill, she was begging to go on to the big hill. I had no idea where the boys were and I was a little nervous about taking her on the chair lift myself. After a few minutes and no luck spotting Blake and Henry, we decided to give it a shot by ourselves. First of all, Paige is too short to "sit down" on the chair lift so they have to slow it down almost to a stop so she can climb on. Second of all, she was so excited to be up so high, she kept trying to look around which was making me really nervous. I wouldn't back out of the driveway without seat belts fastened so the thought of my children sitting completely unrestrained in a metal chair suspended by a cable waaaay off the ground left me feeling a little unsettled. Paige did great getting off the lift and made it all the way down the run without falling once! During the second trip on the lift, we finally spotted the boys. They were on the bunny hill wondering where we had disappeared to. We got their attention and waited for them to meet up with us. Again she made it down the hill without falling. She is a little rocket, we had a hard time keeping up! It was kind of funny because when we were waiting in line, Paige said (very matter of factly) "I know that guy from tubing" (pointing at the lift attendant). I said "oh really" but I was really thinking "yeah right, I'm sure that is the same guy". In fact, the attendant at the chair lift remembered Paige from tubing a couple weeks ago..."Hey, you're the fast girl from the tubing hill!". Paige says she likes to go "wicked fast"...yes, those are her words.

Tubing during Christmas break...
(I forgot the camera when we went skiing)

It turned out to be a great afternoon. I think we are all looking forward to our next trip to the slopes. We worked up quite an appetite skiing so we stopped at BWW to redeem our free wings. The kids were sound asleep by 7:30! It was the perfect end to a great weekend.

The mess is half of the fun!

Closing Ceremonies

NEW YEAR'S EVE
We hosted a little get together to celebrate the new year with appetizers, board games, and cocktails. The kids had a pre-midnight celebration and then headed off to bed so the adults could continue celebrating. None of us could believe it, but they actually went to bed without a fight and stayed there all night. The adults, on the other hand, did not go to bed so easily.

Happy New Year!

Cheers!

Crazy Craiger!

BOYS WEEKEND
Henry and Blake went on their 2nd annual boys new year trip to Devil's Lake, ND. Blake thinks it is pretty neat when he gets to travel to Devil's Lake since that is where he was born. This year there were a total of 4 dads and 4 sons that headed to the big lake for ice fishing and snowmobiling. Well, it turns out that it was REALLY cold and the fishing wasn't so great, but nonetheless, a terrific time was had by all.

Too Cute...
did I say cute? I meant COOL!

GIRLS WEEKEND
This year we decided that it wasn't fair for the guys to have all the fun so we had a mini girls weekend too. The first night was a pool party complete with pizza, pop, and Paige's first real sleepover. The next day was a trip to the "spa"...Paige got a much needed hair trim. We topped the night off with popcorn and movies. Yes, we watched Camp Rock AND High School Musical.

TOOTH FAIRY

Could it get any better? Paige had her first visit from the Tooth Fairy!

AND FINALLY,
BACK TO SCHOOL

Preparing for the first AR test of 2009
