Yeah I'm a Deer Hunter, How Do You Do

Last year Blake learned a lesson in hunting patience.  He hunted all bow season without getting a single shot opportunity.  Henry and I took turns and both spent many hours sitting with him in the blind.  I don't know who was more excited about the chance for him to get his first deer, us or Blake.

The stand is up and the season is open.  Let's hunt!  My first time out this season, I had a doe standing broadside at 15 yards.  I didn't take the shot, but it would have been perfect for Blake.  We couldn't wait to get him out there.  A couple days later, Henry had planned on taking Blake hunting.  It was quite windy but we decided that Henry should at least take the opportunity to take him out and get him acquainted with hunting from a stand.  The weather calmed down so they stayed out for the evening.  Blake bagged his first deer just after sunset.  I was a little jealous that Henry was with him at the time, but also very excited that Henry was with him at the time.  Paige was happy for her brother too and said it was the best venison she ever ate!

Evidence suggesting why Blake didn't get a deer last season.
